an introduction to the constellations of frog hollow.

an introduction to the constellations of frog hollow.
“The stars we are given. The constellations we make.
That is to say, stars exist in the cosmos, but constellations are the imaginary lines we draw between them,
the readings we give the sky, the stories we tell.” ~ Rebecca Solnit

Much gratitude to Allysen for allowing this perfect song companion.

Inspired by life deep in the Forest & the multitude of stars seen in the rural sky, I wanted to create amulets that pay tribute to the many animal visitors to Frog Hollow and how much light and joy they bring into my life.
Guiding the path to share the land with a deeper and more ancient wisdom, among us even when hidden like the stars in the daytime.

These symbolic beasties drawn from heraldic & alchemical archives float in celestial spaces ornamented with medieval woodcut stars.  Over the summer and fall I collected shards of glimmering muscovite (or mica) that I found here and around our village of Ringville, my husband David and even our neighbors helped gather the treasures. (Once you find some, it is hard not to look!)  This element brings an earthly balance ~ a grounding connection to Frog Hollow to each Amulet. Said to facilitate clarity in vision & mysticism, muscovite shards separate into shimmering leaves of transparent iridescence. After washing the mica in our stream, I carefully place a thin veil of layers over the image, bringing a mysterious pearly glow between the constellations and the protective vintage glass crystal cabochon.
