The Miracle Window Collection for The British Museum
In November of last year, The British Museum had kindly asked me to design a collection for their upcoming Thomas Becket Exhibition, what a thrill!
Had worked with them in the past for the Renaissance Drawings and Treasures of Heaven exhibitions and was so happy to hear from them again. Though honestly a bit daunting to take on a big project in these difficult times, it was wonderful to have something creative and exciting to focus on and get me through the long winter. Very grateful.
(I was about to ship them all out to London the next day in this photo, so I look a bit worried! Thankfully all arrived safely.)
Really proud of this collection and glad I pushed myself to work through my hesitancy. Hope the visitors to this wonderful exhibition like them too.
If you go, please take photos for me! Love to see friends visiting my Amulets on display. Show runs from May 20 - Aug 22, 2021.
One of the Miracle Windows from the Trinity Chapel of Canterbury Cathedral will be a highlight of the show, so I was inspired to design an Amulet based on the main clover shape in the central panel.
(You can learn more about these incredible windows online here: Re-interpreting the Becket Miracle Windows from Canterbury Cathedral)
A hand-carved and sculpted frame echoes the window's curves and curling tendrils of floriated ornament winding around the clover. Cast in recycled bronze, antiqued with the deep patinas of age, and finally set with the same Jewel-toned Cobalt and Ruby hues favored by the Medieval stained glass artists back in the 12th century for an adornment that pays tribute to the architectural beauty of centuries past. Earrings that echo the fleur & clover elements of the windows complement the pendant or can be worn alone.

"Exclusive to the British Museum, a bronze pendant necklace inspired by Canterbury Cathedral’s Miracle Window.
This necklace forms part of a range accompanying the exhibition Thomas Becket: murder and the making of a saint.
The necklace has been created for the British Museum from recycled bronze and rich blue glass, and has been finished with an antique patina. The design is based on the extraordinary 13th century stained glass windows at Canterbury Cathedral which illustrate a number of miracles performed at the shrine of Thomas Becket. The clover motif is typically used in cathedrals to represent the four points of the cross.
A stunning and unique gift."
